Stacey Bjornstad, R. Provisional Psych
Registered Provisional Psychologist,  West End Location

I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist and a member in good standing within the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta, the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and most recently the Canadian Psychological Association. I graduated in 2021 from Athabasca University with a Masters of Counselling with a specialization in Counselling Psychology.

I have inspired to become a Registered Psychologist my entire adult life! I believe people are fascinating, social  beings and I strive for everyone to be able to feel connected. For more than two decades I have worked within human services, most recently with first responder populations. My varied and unique life experiences help me, help you as a client!

I specialize in mental health conditions related to trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions and unhealthy coping strategies, within all age groups, from ages 6-85+. My primary focus in therapeutic sessions are providing a safe and non-judgmental space to allow yourself the opportunity to uncover your strengths and achieve clarity to your unique challenges. I believe you are the expert of your own experiences! I begin sessions from a client focused approach, and am able to bring in other modalities as needed that promote positive growth, for example, somatic, solutions focused, mindfulness, play and Gestalt.

With a lifelong love of learning, I most recently attended a webinar about trauma and the body, and have plans for additional training over the next year to include couple counselling, trauma work, and therapeutic interventions. I have previous speaking engagement experience with public servants, first
responder populations, and six months co-facilitating a “Grandparents who Parent” group.

Outside of counselling, I love to walk my dog, hang out with my cats, get outside into nature, read, and quilt!

Lori Thompson, R.S.W.
Registered Social Worker,  West End Location

I am a social worker and have been working in the mental health field for more than 15 years. I started my social work career working with families experiencing homelessness and addiction. This work sparked an interest in the connection between traumatic events in early life and mental health problems in adulthood.

Whether you are having trouble in your relationship, struggling with anxiety, grief, or depression, I am hear to listen, provide a safe non-judgemental space and support you in making changes.  I work with adults, couples, teens and families. I have a particular interest in working with complicated grief and with families struggling to parent children with challenging behaviour.

I believe that change takes place when people connect with their emotional experience. I focus on models of therapy that will help you better understand and regulate your emotions, reshape your interpersonal relationships and create meaningful connection in your life. I work to help you change the way you relate to unwanted thoughts and distressing feelings. It’s important for me to help you shift your focus away from “what’s wrong with me” and toward “what’s happened to me and how can I understand the impact”.

I completed my Masters degree in Social Work from Howard University in 2000. I have been licensed with the Alberta College of Social Workers since 2011. I’ve worked in non-profit, hospital based, intensive day hospital and community based public mental health and addictions programs. As well, I’ve held both healthcare manger and clinical supervisor roles in public mental health programs. I am working toward certification in Emotion Focused therapy.

When I am not working you will find me hanging out with my dog, creating art or walking in the woods.

Tina Gal, CCC, BA (Psych), MC
Canadian Certified Counsellor,  West End Location

My passion for counselling began when I received services from an amazing counsellor and my world changed forever. I strive to live up to this experience and support anxious, depressed, and stressed humans to move forward in their lives and relationships. We live in challenging times and many of us feel stressed, depressed, anxious, or disconnected. ...and given the various stressors of life, some people experience that their intimate relationship is no longer intimate. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, stress, depression, or relational concerns, I would love to support you find more connection and move forward in life.

In my own life, I have experienced how difficulty fuels change. Just like diamonds are forged under pressure, and if we have the support we need, we have the potential to grow and thrive. I love connecting with people in the intimate space that is therapy. I love to see others change and grow where they thought yesterday change was not possible.

I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor, a member in good standing with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and a member of the Alberta Clinical Hypnosis Society (ACHS). I have completed intermediate training in Clinical Hypnosis/Hypnotherapy and Advanced Training in Somatic Experiencing, a body-oriented trauma-informed modality.

I work holistically and enjoy sparking curiosity for the wisdom of your body in session. I am relational, so you won't sit in a session with me wondering what I am thinking: I am honest and direct, yet gentle. I use scientifically based somatic therapies, feminist, emotion-focused, and solution-focused modalities.

One of my passions is to support women (and individuals of all genders) experiencing difficulties with intimacy and sexuality-related challenges. I believe that open conversations about sexuality are important and create a safe space for them in therapy. I also believe that there is so much potential in intimate relationships and would love to support you in unlocking some of it.

When I am not in session, I am hopefully cross-country skiing or camping with my husband. I am an introvert as much as an extrovert and love a good balance between alone time and time with good friends!
